Professional Biography
Dr. Hj. Kamalludin Bin Bilal is a seasoned professional with more than three decades of comprehensive experience in the fields of landscape architecture, facilities management, and construction management. His career journey reflects a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership excellence, and academic contribution within both the public and private sectors of Malaysia.
He began his professional career as an Assistant Agriculture Officer with the Department of Agriculture Johor, where he served for ten years and developed a strong foundation in environmental and agricultural management. His passion for sustainable development led him to pursue further education in landscape architecture, where he later joined Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as a Landscape Architect, contributing to the planning and enhancement of campus environments.
Dr. Kamalludin’s significant leadership tenure includes his service as Landscape Director at the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB). In this capacity, he spearheaded numerous urban landscape and green infrastructure initiatives, playing a pivotal role in shaping the aesthetic and ecological identity of Johor Bahru city. His work emphasized the integration of sustainable practices in public landscape projects, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.
Transitioning to academia, he served as a Senior Lecturer at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), where he spent over a decade teaching and mentoring students in facilities and construction management. His academic involvement also extended to research in green technology and sustainable asset management, bridging the gap between theory and industry practices.
At present, Dr. Kamalludin is the Managing Director of Lotus Design and Services and Lotus Sketch Sdn. Bhd., firms specializing in landscape design, facilities management consultancy, and green innovation projects. He also holds board positions in Ladang Asam Bubuk Sdn. Bhd. and Koperasi Asam Bubok Berhad, contributing to strategic development and governance in agribusiness and cooperative ventures.
Academically, Dr. Kamalludin holds a PhD and Master’s Degree in Facilities Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), as well as a Diploma in Agriculture from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia (UPM). Professionally, he is a Corporate Member of the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM), a Certified Arborist of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), and a Professional Technologist (PT18070057) in Building and Construction Technology.
His core interests encompass landscape architecture, facilities and asset management, construction management, green technology, and arboriculture. With a proven record of leadership, technical competence, and innovation, Dr. Kamalludin continues to contribute meaningfully to Malaysia’s built environment and sustainability landscape.
