Professional Biography
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Md. Asrul Nasid Masrom is the Dean of the Faculty of Technology Management and Business at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). He is an accomplished academic, researcher, and consultant in construction management and sustainable infrastructure, holding a PhD in Built Environment from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia, as well as a Master’s in Construction Contract Management and a Bachelor’s in Building from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). With over 15 years of academic, research, and industry experience, Dr. Asrul is recognized for his expertise in sustainable construction, project and contract management, digital innovation, and energy-efficient development. His research work focuses on decarbonisation, net-zero energy buildings (NZEB), and the integration of digital technologies such as BIM, drone applications, and digital twin systems in the construction industry.
In his leadership role as Dean, Dr. Asrul provides strategic direction for academic excellence, research development, and industry collaboration within the faculty. He previously served as Deputy Dean (Research, Development & Publication) and Principal Investigator at the Centre for Sustainable Infrastructure & Environmental Management (CSIEM). Dr. Asrul’s academic and research influence extends internationally, having served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne and a Mentor at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He has successfully led and collaborated on more than 20 funded projects, including those focusing on green retrofit performance, digitalisation, circular economy, and smart mobility. His partnerships with FY Intech, Juru Wajar Sdn. Bhd., and Koperasi Pekebun Kecil Daerah Pontian (KEPAK) have produced impactful research and innovation projects valued at over RM5 million.
Dr. Asrul is an active scholar with more than 80 international publications in leading journals such as Elsevier, Emerald, and MDPI. He is also the author of the book “Evolusi Kaedah Pengukuran Kepuasan Dalam Industri Binaan” (UTHM Press, 2017) and has received numerous awards, including Gold and Silver Medals from the International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition (ITEX) and Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE), as well as recognition at the PETRONAS CHESS Innovation Awards. His academic influence is reflected through his H-Index of 11 on Scopus.
Professionally, Dr. Asrul is an Associate Member of the National Council of Professors (MPN) and a Graduate Technologist with the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT). He is a sought-after keynote speaker and external evaluator, having contributed to international conferences such as INNOVATE 2024 (USIM), IGRESAFE 2024, and iBIOSDG 2023, as well as MQA academic audits for various institutions. Dr. Asrul has also served as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Melbourne, Victoria University, and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).
